Seventh grade Scotts Ridge Middle School student Simon Hooper has qualified for the Connecticut Geography Bee to be held at Central Connecticut State University on Friday, April 4.

Simon won the school competition in December and then qualified by completing a written test that put him in the top 100 students in the state.

Connecticut schools with students in grades four through eight were eligible for this test of geographic knowledge.

Each school’s bee produced one winner. The top 100 scoring students were then invited to the state-level bee.

The winner of the Connecticut Bee will represent the state at the national finals in Washington, D.C., May 19 to 21, and compete in the national finals for scholarships of  $50,000, $15,000 and $10,000.
