Organizers of a law film series at the Prospector Pop-Up said it has been a forum for civil debate.
“The law restores my faith in humanity,” Thomas Leaf, Esq. said after sharing with the audience about his experience as a criminal defense attorney in Bridgeport. The first evening of Law Through Film featured Henry Fonda in 12 Angry Men, and afterwards Leaf chose a mock “voir dire” from the audience. Viewers learned how a lawyer chooses a juror.
For the second evening, local attorney Richard Land facilitated a discussion on executive privilege after watching Ron Howard’s eight-time Academy nominated film, Frost/Nixon. Why does it matter that citizens understand how the balance of powers are supposed to work? By asking questions that prompted bipartisan thinking on the subject, Mr. Land urged the audience informed itself on a bit of early American history and executive privilege.
The next installment is March 26 with the viewing of Dead Man Walking and a discussion hosted by Police Commissioner George Kain, a professor who has advocated against the death penalty in Connecticut.
