The Ridgefield Library Association is seeking applications from Ridgefielders for membership on its board of directors. Self-nominations are welcome.

The board of directors governs all aspects of the library: policy setting, fund raising, investing, oversight of income and expense, personnel policies, and overseeing property maintenance.

With the opening of the new library building just around the corner, it is a particularly exciting time to become a working part of this 16-member board, the association said. During the last eight years much of the work of the board has involved raising money and getting the building built. A strategic plan developed last year identified initiatives and plans for the next three years.

For the upcoming year the association is particularly interested in candidates with experience in public relations/marketing, finance and fund raising. Library board members are expected to take on active support of fund-raising efforts. Three-year terms begin on July 1.

“The board is charged with providing the best possible library service to the community, with maintaining financial and intellectual health of the library, and with planning for the future,” said Library Director Christina B. Nolan.

The library director and professional staff manage policy implementation and daily operations of the library.

For more information on the roles and responsibilities of board members, and to apply, contact board member Lorraine Mellon at lferm@aol.com. The library is seeking completed applications by April 8.
