Barbara Mitchell Kirtley, 91, longtime Ridgefield resident, passed away on March 9, 2014 in Simsbury, Connecticut.
Born in San Jose California, she was a graduate of Los Gatos High School, and San Jose State College, where she was a member of Rainbow Girls and the Black Masque Honor Society. She also belonged to Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association of Fairfield County.
In Ridgefield, she was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where she was a long-time member of the altar guild, and did other regular volunteer work. She was also a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association of Ridgefield. She belonged to the Great Pond Club for more than 30 years and served as treasurer. For many years, she worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. An avid bridge player, she attained her life master in 1974 and her gold life master in 2001.
Barbara was predeceased by her husband James, her sister Jacqueline Child, her grandson Daniel and her great-granddaughter Brenna Rose. She is survived by her five children — James, Susan, John, Sally and William, all of whom graduated from Ridgefield High School, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on May 10 at 1:00 at St. Stephen’s Church, Ridgefield, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ridgfield Visiting Nurses Association, St. Stephens Church, or the charity of your choice.
