Abigail Hahn, a 2011 graduate of RHS and a student at Colgate University, is spending the spring semester in a Coastal Ecology and Natural Resource Management program on the island of Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania, East Africa.
The program uses Zanzibar’s geographic and ecological assets, including its extensive coastline, surrounding islands, flora, fauna, and tropical climate, as a setting to examine coastal ecology and natural resource management.
Studies include seminars and field work both in the Indian Ocean archipelago, including the islands of Pemba, Mbudya and Sinda, and in the capital city of Dar es Salaam on the Tanzania mainland.
During the program, students participate in Kiswahili language studies while living with families in Stone Town and Pemba.
Ms. Hahn is pursuing degrees in economics and environmental studies at Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y., and is a member of Colgate’s Class of 2015.
