The scene of the last night’s accident on Ridgebury Road, where a 15-year-old girl was struck and killed by a vehicle.
UPDATE 5:15 p.m. — A 15-year-old girl died after being struck by a vehicle around 9:30 p.m. Friday night on Ridgebury Road, acting Fire Chief Kevin Tappe confirmed.
Police did not report an arrest stemming from the accident Saturday morning.
“This is an ongoing police investigation and as the investigation permits, further information will be released,” police said.
The Ridgefield High School student’s identity has not been confirmed yet, but the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said more information would be released tomorrow.
Chief Tappe could not confirm the extent of the victim’s injuries, but said she was treated extensively in the ambulance while being rushed to Danbury Hospital.
“She passed away last night right after she arrived at the hospital,” he said. “The cause is trauma from a car accident.”
Police remained on the scene for several hours investigating the accident, Chief Tappe added.
Fire police directed traffic.
The Ridgefield Police Department confirmed that detectives were back on the scene Saturday morning investigating the accident.
Chief Tappe confirmed the victim was “not alone” and that a group of kids were on the scene when the paramedics arrived.
He added that the driver was not taken to the hospital.
Ridgebury Road was closed from George Washington Highway to Chestnut Hill Road around 9:50 last night and remained closed while police investigated.
“The Ridgefield Police Department would like extend their thoughts and prayers to the family of the deceased,” said a police press release. ” It is a tragedy when a person loses their life at such a young age.”
