A potential $4 million sale of 10 acres of the Schlumberger property will be discussed and probably voted on tonight by the Board of Selectmen, who could send the decision to sell on to town voters at a later date
The selectmen have been negotiating with up to four bidders for weeks, after opening responses in December to a “request for proposals” on the 10-acre site. The high bid at that initial opening for $4 million.
After an executive session discussion Monday night, two bidders reportedly remained in the discussion, and the selectmen are expected to decide tonight.
The most recent agenda distributed for the meeting, Wednesday, March 5, at 7:30 in town hall, says, “Discussion and vote on sale of former Schlumberger site 10-acre parcel; Set public hearing and special town meeting dates.”
There is talk of a public hearing as soon as next week, with a town meeting later — but with voters’ exercising their decision-making power at a referendum that would allow day-long machine voting.
The 10-acre parcel, off Sunset Lane, was zoned for multi-family use last summer after a zone change petition from the Board of Selectmen.
Their intent is to sell the property for residential development as part of the effort to recover some of the $7 million the town spent to acquire the Schlumberger property.
